Candles
- The candelabras are usually lit every Sunday except during the summer.
- Stick matches are kept in the box behind the altar and should be replenished regularly.
Sunday Worship Setup
Things to remember in Preparing our Worship Service:
- We are creating an environment for our congregation's worship.
- We are here to assist the pastor with anything he/she needs and allow the pastor to
concentrate on his part of the service.
- Please arrive for set up by 9:20 AM (at the latest) on Communion
Sundays and by 9:30 AM on other Sundays if you are the primary Deacons. Setup should be complete by 9:45 AM with candle lighting at 9:50 AM.
- If you are unable to start setup at the scheduled time (whether running
late or not in attendance), please ensure that you have a replacement, starting with the Assisting Deacons.
Before the service
- The microphones and the hearing devices must be retrieved from the office.
- Turn on all lights and ceiling fans in the sanctuary. Remember to turn on the separate switch for the pulpit lights (located on the pillar on the fellowship hall side of the sanctuary). If the cross is not lit, the switch is on the light behind the altar!
- Unlock and open the front doors and the side door (which leads to the ramp).
- Hook up the the microphones as required (see Directions for microphone Setup)
- Check Altar Cloth Calendar to see if altar cloths have to be changed. Cloths are in the Deacons' room behind the altar.
- Unlock the sound system and follow Directions for Sound System Setup.
- Change hymn numbers on both hymn plaques. The step ladder is located behind the pews to the far side of the sanctuary
- Light the two altar candles and the candelabras.
After the service
- As people are leaving, 'mingle' with the congregation and remind people about fellowship.
- Extinguish all candles.
- Tidy up the sanctuary.
- Close and lock all outside doors.
- Shut off the sound system and make sure the cassette tapes are labeled. (Put the label on the tape, not on the box...in case the box is separated from the tape!)
- Rewind the microphone cords.
- Return microphones and hearing devices to the office.
- Shut off the lights and fans in the Sanctuary.
Communion Sunday. Deacons of the month are responsible for:
- providing the bread and grape juice to be used in communion,
- setting up the communion table,
- serving the elements during the service.
Instructions on Communion Preparation can be found in the Communion Information Binder (located in the 'silver' cabinet).
